Home Tasting and Video Pack #3

Home Tasting Series Pack #3 is an exploration of the wines of one of the great Burgundy producers, Joseph Drouhin, both in
their home vineyards in France and their pioneering project in Oregon.

Follow along with Cynthia from Pacific Wine & Spirits as she compares 2 vineyards on different continents, both owned by Joseph Drouhin Winery. A Pinot Noir grown in Burgundy France vs a Pinot Noir grown in Oregon, plus a beautiful Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuisse. You will learn about the fascinating history of Joseph Drouhin Burgundy and how they came to own one of the first vineyards in Oregon.

Cynthia has almost 8 years experience as a Sales Representative at Pacific, catering specifically to boutique retail stores and almost 15 years experience in the hospitality industry overall. Cynthia has a passion for Wine & History and loves educating consumers on both. If you have attended one of Cynthia’s educational seminars at Liquor Select, you will know she brings an enthusiastic and jovial approach to learning about wine.

The Wines

2018 Joseph Drouhin Pouilly Fuisse

  • Site: the vineyards of Pouilly and Fuissé (two separate villages) cover the slopes of Solutré and Vergisson, two well-known cliffs serving as backdrop to this magnificent landscape. The soil is clay and limestone from the Jurassic age.
  • Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
  • Production: Very slow and careful crush and fermentation in stainless steel. Aged for 6-8 months, partly in stainless steel vats and partly in oak barrels (0% new oak) to retain freshness and showcase the fruit.
  • Vintage: Exceptional weather conditions gave a very healthy crop of high quality. White wines show a very pleasant balance. They deliver aromas of flowers and ripe fruits.

2015 Joseph Drouhin Cote de Beaune

  • Site: On the hill overlooking the city of Beaune itself. Chalky soil with a South/South-East exposure.
  • Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
  • Production: Strict biodynamic cultivation and production rules followed. Hand harvested and sorted. Aged 12-15 months in oak barrels (10% new).
  • Vintage: One of the great vintages of the 21 st century, 2015 offers deeply coloured and intense wines with great ageing potential.

2015 Roserock Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills

  • Site: Situated at the southern tip of Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon’s Williamette Valley on decayed volcanic soils
  • Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
  • Production: Hand harvested, all Estate fruit from individually managed and vinified blocks.
  • Vintage: 2015 was an exceptional year in Oregon, with a cool, drawn out harvest allowing for each block to be picked at the perfect time.
